The National Examinations Council (NECO) has postponed the commencement of the 2020 Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (SSCE) for external candidates.
The nation’s examination body, which had earlier fixed the date for the start of the exercise for Monday, February 1, 2021, said the exam will no longer take place on that date but at another day.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Mr Azeez Sani, it was disclosed that the new date for the exercise is Monday, February 8, 2021.
NECO explained that the rationale behind the shift in the commencement date for the exam was to allow candidates to complete their registration process and prepare well for the exam.
The agency also noted that those who missed the academic examination held for SS3 students last year due to the #EndSARS protest have the opportunity to write their papers next months.
”Following requests by candidates to be given more time to complete their registration process for the 2020 SSCE (External), the National Examinations Council (NECO) has fixed new dates for the examination.
“Thus, the examination which was earlier scheduled to commence on Monday, February 1, 2021, and end on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, will now start on Monday, February 8, 2021, and end on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.
“The council hereby informs those candidates, who missed some papers during the 2020 SSCE (Internal) due to the ENDSARS protests in some states, to take note of these new dates and report for the examination accordingly at their various examination centres to be designated.
